DAY 2....RAISING INDIANA
Restoration Act getting stale? We can help.
We laughed our way across Hoosierland with Ms Chips, the
young lady who lives in Adrian's GPS. Ever encouraging, ever willing to repeat
herself, armed with dated maps, unsure of left and right, but so much more
effective than the taciturn and alarmingly unaware of current highway numbering
Mr Google, a prisoner here of his own device.
Listening to Ms Chips muttering her way out of a left turned
right gave me an idea for a NYorker cartoon: A post-coital couple is side by
side in bed. He is heavy-lidded, she is alert. The caption:
"...recalculating..."
As you can see from the samples below we have made a devils
bargain: an industroscape to rival Jersey....and yet, flowering trees.
...on one hand
...on the other
But even exchange considered, the gas is almost free, and
Canadians who speak zipcode may pay at the pump, and two may dine at Applebee's
for less than a twelve-pack of Steamwhistle.
Tonight's stop is Troy...just east of the Dardanelles which
Americans call the Mississippi and which also separates East and West. Tomorrow
we light out for the territories.
